Digital Pedagogies & Power point

The use of digital pedagogies to extend and enhace learning is now becoming as natural as pen to paper. The choice of not using these tools in our digital age can only restrict the learning of our students. As students are now more and more influenced by the global world at their finger tips, the ability to weave this into their everyday learning can only enhance their skills. As our world and work force is so digitally engrained, pedagogies must be adapted and encouraged in this area. The many types of ICT used from simple word processing, to detailed story telling, using tools like Power Point and then transformation into digital movies. This allow students to explore the medias at the same time as presenting the information in a unique way that further displays their own individual creativity. The ability and freedom for students to use their own story telling ideas allows ownership of their learning and can explore new and fantasticly fresh ideas. These ideas can be used to enhance thier own and others learning experiences.

  1. I have to agree with your comments Simon especially about having to adapt and encourage learning with digital pedagogy. Something I have seen at my prac school which is a rural high school is the lack of ICT within the classroom so not only do teachers battle with the limited amount of equipment but also with the lack of education by the older teachers which are generally heads of department.
    The everyday fight of a future BLM teacher.

  2. I feel that schools are still at the open door looking in. There appears to be a need in professional development in the area of ICT in the classroom. I have witnessed a number of 'digital immigrant' teachers who have little desire to seek ICT, and others who are interested, but struggle to find the time. PD in this area may help, encourage, and give practical reason to explore this exciting avenue. So what can WE do about it?

  3. You have said that digital pedagogies have become as natural as pen to paper. What about children in smaller schools or poorer countries who do not have access to ICTs including computers, mobile phones, cameras and PowerPoints? How do students who do not have access to these ICTs while at home, continue their homework? Are they suppose to fall behind in class just because they cannot afford the equipment due to the lower socioeconomic status? These are just some questions I think of when we talk about using digital pedagogies so much in the 21st century. ICTs are fantastic for engaging students in class, however there are such huge limitations to those students who do not have access to this kind of equipment. What can be done for them?
    Just some food for thought.
